Feathering Friday–Fashion and Beauty Musings

In honor of David Letterman…my top 10 fashion and beauty ponderings this week [inhale]:

10.  Why is the internet so obsessed with the Jenners/Kardashians, etc? Really?

9.    When do beauty and fashion cross the line to pornography? {see the Met Gala}

8.    How many layers of serums and creams are really necessary for the average woman? or, even healthy?

7.    What magic lies inside of an $18.00 bottle of nail polish?

6.    Foundation application–via brush or fingertips?

5.    Why would any sane person pay $4000.00+ shoes, boots, or a handbag?

4.     On the opposite side of the coin, when will we break our fast fashion habits so that laborers can be paid a living wage with benefits?

3.     Do numbers 4 and 5 above cancel each other out?

2.     Has anyone else noticed how (no other graceful way to say this) so many of the Spring/Summer fashions look  a bit frumpy this year?

1.     Why would anyone pay to purchase ripped jeans?????

okay…ranting done for now.  Some of these points are legitimate, some a bit tongue in cheek, some, well, brutally honest. Beauty and Fashion are in the eye of the beholder.  As I grow more mature, my beholding eye seeks expression in creativity, genuineness, and integrity.  I admit that I wear serum and cream, mascara and shadow, concealer and blush, heels, skinnies, and nail polish. I love texture, good design, new thoughts and ideas, and different approaches to dressing and feathering oneself.

With that in mind I am actively seeking a simple yet effective way to extend my wardrobe in a manner that holds true to my creative desires (think 3 season wearing ability).  I long to connect with a fair trade/organic beauty company that offers an effective yet simple and inexpensive regimen for skin care and make-up.  I love a leather purse or shoe, but do not want to feed the slave trade of outsourced garment workers, nor can I–nor would I ever consider paying–a month’s wages for a purse.  Something wrong with that…very wrong.  And quite honestly, I am rather insulted that, at this point in feminist consciousness raising, the majority of faces and bodies we see in the media are still underfed and under aged women who neither need the products they hawk, nor are they presented in a manner that raises their personal dignity.

C’mon ladies and gents!  Let’s show some real faces, real bodies, and real beauty and fashion!

whew…[exhale]…the peacock has presided…

I am a fabric artist and a professional minister in the Catholic Church. I am married for 40+ years to a most fabulous man. We have 4 adult children, 2 daughter-in-laws ( who we also consider to our children!) and 4 grandbabies. I love to weave, paint silk, sew and design garments for myself; bead, read, write and color. I am also a spiritual Companion/Director and have a special place in my soul for women who are healing and in need of healing from trauma and abuse. I love coffee, quiet reflective prayer time at my kitchen table and long walks to breathe in the Holy Spirit. I would like to learn how to spin yarn and will someday create a spun, hand dyed/painted, beaded, woven fabulous garment of peace!
