It is no great secret that I adore the season of Autumn.
Every year about this time, I find myself longing for black cashmere turtlenecks, new boots—the fashion variety, not snow–and the often sought for but rarely found perfect Fall lipstick. Daily, I leap out to the mailbox with high hopes of the August Bazaar and Vogue issues to arrive so that I can feed this Fall fashion frenzy.
I awoke this morning to a cool and cloudy day in my neighborhood—the type of weather that ignites my Fall passion. So I gave in to that great longing and perused the Mood Fabric website, simply to look at the wools, imagining them as fun and classic coats, skirts, suits, trousers…you get the idea. I managed to find a gorgeous piece of turquoise wool/silk by Carolina Herrera. [Actually, I have lusted after said textile for about two years but panicked when the swatch showed an accompanying note of “Hurry! Almost sold out!” Yes, I gave in and bought 2 ½ yards to add to my stash…]
Then I pulled up various beauty pages—Chanel, Tom Ford, Nars Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, Urban Decay, Lancome, Dolce and Gabbana, and Giorgio Armani. A few of these companies have released their Fall Beauty collections, but not all. What I discovered is a definite trend of ‘70’s cosmetic chic in the air—deep sepias, dark lips, warm cinnamons.
Being a teen and young adult of that time period, I felt quite at home! I shall anxiously await the remaining collections to see if they are inspired with this same vibe.
Back to Mood—I encountered more pinstripe wools than I have seen since the late ‘70’s, early ‘80’s. Native and tribal woven designs appeared as well as the usual dark suitings. Just as I began to yawn over some of the dark wools, a page of fanciful and fresh pinks, salmons and orchids popped up! Tweeds and knit looks brought me back to the reddish brown arena and my imagination steam rolled at full speed ahead! I see jackets, skirts and sweaters, coat dresses, long vests, full trousers….oh my! Rich leather tones, the warm browns and cool burgundies, tooled leathers in footwear and handbags, swatches of fur…September, I want you!
I shook myself back into the present moment as I realized that the weather forecast in my part of the world calls for a return to the normal July hot and steamy temps later this weekend. I will don my sundresses and bare feet, but the bug has bit: I am officially craving fall and the pulling together of that wondrous wardrobe.
